Our member spotlight has never been about picking the best athlete or the most sellable member. It’s about celebrating our members, it’s about reinforcing good training habits and about encouraging community. Each of our spotlights has a character trait or habit that should be spread around the gym.
Saz, (Sarah Park) is rarely found without her sister/lover from another mother, they joined at the same time around a year ago and have stuck with it ever since. Saz’s progress has been great to watch, her squatting especially has gone from none existent to one of her stronger movements! Consistency is key to Saz’s success and will continue to be her not so secret weapon for the next year.
An easy question to start off, what do you do?
I am the assistant manager (admin) at Dogs Trust Ballymena
Why did you decide to try CrossFit?
How is your training now compared to before?
What’s been the hardest part about training for you?
I really struggle with the mental part of a work out. I find it really hard to push through and keep going even when you want to stop so that’s something I really want to work on.
Is there one big thing you’d like to achieve in the next year?
It’s so hard to pick just one thing as I want to get better at everything. I’d love to be able to do double unders or push ups on the ground or increase what I squat so hopefully in the next year I’ll get at least one of these things (hopefully all of them 🙂 )
I absolutely detest burpees and running so really need to focus on improving these.
Anything else you wish to add?
One of the best things about CrossFit is the people. The coaches are amazing and so patient. They really had their work cut out for them with me as I couldn’t do even the simplest of movements and had picked up lots of bad habits as no other gym or class I’d been to had ever shown me the correct way to do things. The coaches started to teach me the basics and I’m amazed at how much better I’ve got with everything simply by taking the time to do the correct movement. All the other gym members are fantastic! They are all so supportive and encouraging when you’re doing a workout or finally nail a move that it really motivates you to keep going and keep pushing yourself. I’ve met lots of amazing people through CrossFit and it really was the best thing that has ever happened to me.
